Aselsan AESA radar made its first flight!

Aselsan played a major role within the scope of Turkey’s domestic and national defense industry projects. The most curious project of the company, which has made great efforts especially in areas such as radio, communication and electronic warfare, is undoubtedly the AESA radar. According to the news today, Aselsan AESA radar made its first flight. Here are the details…

As it is known, the most important feature of the F-35 type 5th generation aircraft is the radars in their noses. Northrop Grumman AN/APG-81 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar is used on F-35 aircraft. Thanks to this radar, we define the aircraft as a 5th generation fighter aircraft.

But what changes things here is the manufacturer. Because our domestic manufacturers produce this radar, it saves us from being dependent on abroad for “software and informatics”. The expected news came today from the Aselsan AESA radar, which has been eagerly awaited since the moment it was first announced. Aselsan performed the first flight of the AESA radar together with the modernization kit Blok ÖZGÜR, which competes in the F-16 Block 70 class.

According to the press release sent by Aselsan, the first flight of the AESA radar was carried out on February 15, 2024, with the F-16 ÖZGÜR Platform, whose mission computer was also nationalized. In this flight, which is of great importance for Turkey’s domestic and national defense industry move, the mission features of the AESA radar and its compatibility with the F-16 Blok ÖZGÜR aircraft were also demonstrated.

AESA radar, which will start its flights with AKINCI in the near future, will have nose radars with AESA technology in F-16 ÖZGÜR, HÜRJET, National Combat Aircraft (KAAN), AKINCI, KIZILELMA and ANKA-3 UAVs in the future.
