Artificial intelligence support for Google Photos! Ask Photos introduced -SDN

At I/O 2024, Google CEO Sundar Pichai introduced a new feature that will take Google Photos’ already impressive search capabilities to the next level: Ask Photos. Ask Photos, available this summer, will use artificial intelligence to connect the dots for more complex requests, making it easier to understand what you’re looking for.

What does Ask Photos do and how is it used?

In the on-stage introduction, Pichai asked the app, “I lost my license plate?” asked. Currently, searching for a license plate requires scrolling through photos of many different cars. But Ask Photos figured out which vehicle was meant based on location, how many times the license plate appeared in photos over the years, and other data, and presented the actual license plate number along with a text response and a confirming image.

“Ask Photos can also help you dig deeper into your memories,” Pichai said, adding that the app “shows Lucia her swimming progress.” Gemini then assembled a large collection of photographs summarizing years of a child’s swimming lessons.

Pichai said Ask Photos will be coming to Google Photos this summer and that “more capabilities are on the way.” To illustrate how important the service has become to millions of people, the Google CEO said Photos has been receiving 6 billion photo and video uploads per day since its launch “almost 9 years ago.”

Ask Photos will improve the user experience of Google Photos, making discovering memories easier and more meaningful.
