Dusseldorf From parcel deliverer to IT specialist – is that possible? Better than ever today, says Susanne Wißfeld. Anyone looking for a job is no longer dependent on the next best job, according to the managing director for innovations at the personnel service provider Randstad. “We live in an applicant market – period,” she says. It’s going to stay that way for a while.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, almost 13 million workers will retire from the labor market over the next 15 years. Those who follow are not enough to fill the skills gap. When it comes to job offers, candidates increasingly have a choice.

In view of this shift in power, Wißfeld calls on companies to respond radically to candidates: “HR managers must stop staring at CVs and instead talk intensively with people.” After that, they could better decide where in the company someone would be best placed. This is not always the area in which someone has previously worked.
