Description of Swift Student Challenge
The statement made by Apple for the Swift Student Challenge is as follows:
With this year’s exciting Swift Student Challenge, we continue our long-standing support for coding-loving students from around the world. Showcase your passion for coding by creating an amazing Swift Playgrounds app project on your chosen topic. Winners will receive exclusive WWDC22 outerwear, a customized pin set, and a one-year membership in the Apple Developer Program.
How to apply for WWDC22?
Create your Swift Playgrounds app project, answer a few questions, provide documentation, and submit.
- To qualify for the challenge, you must:
- Be over the age of 13 in the United States or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction (for example, age 16 in the European Union).
- Register with Apple for free as an Apple developer or become a member of the Apple Developer Program.
- Fulfill one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in an accredited academic institution or official homeschooling equivalent.
- Be enrolled in a STEM organization’s educational curriculum.
- Enroll in an Apple Developer Academy.
- Have graduated from high school or equivalent within the last 6 months and are awaiting admission or have already been accepted to an accredited academic institution.
- Note: The Challenge is designed for developers who are improving their software development skills. You may receive up to four Swift Student Challenge awards or WWDC Scholarships.
How to create application project for WWDC22?
The statement made by Apple is as follows:
Create an interactive scene that can be experienced in three minutes in the Swift Playgrounds app project. Be creative. If you need inspiration, use the provided templates to get a head start on more advanced creations. Make them your own by adding graphics, sound and more.
- Requirements for creating an application project:
- Your submission must be a Swift Playgrounds app project (.swiftpm) in a ZIP file.
- Your creation should not rely on a network connection and all resources used in your application project should be included locally in the ZIP file. Submissions will be considered offline.
- Your ZIP file can be up to 25 MB.
- Your post must be created by you as a person or as a template modified by you to a person. Group work will not be considered. You may include third-party open source licensed code and/or public domain images and sounds, with credit and an explanation of why it is used.
- Your Swift Playgrounds app project must be built and run with Swift Playgrounds 4.0.2 on iPadOS 15.4 or Xcode 13.3 on macOS 12.3. If running on iPadOS, it should be optimized to display properly on all models of iPad Pro.
- All content must be in English.
- With the Swift Student Challenge tag, you can ask questions and connect with other applicants on the Apple Developer Forums.
What to do to complete the submission:
- Sign in to the application form with the Apple ID associated with your developer account. If you are under 18, you will also be asked to enter the contact details of your parent or legal guardian.
- Upload your latest class schedule or other most recent proof of enrollment (PDF, PNG or JPG) and your education advisor’s contact information. Documents are accepted in all languages. Your documents should clearly show your name, organization or school name, and dates that show it is valid.
- Upload the ZIP file (up to 25 MB) containing your Swift Playgrounds app project and related resources. Tell us about the features and technologies you use in your design in 350 words or less.
- If you have shared or intend to share your coding knowledge and enthusiasm for computer science with others, let us know in no more than 350 words.
- You’ll also have the option to tell us in 350 words or less about any app created entirely by you on the App Store. If you’re 18 or older and want to share your resume or CV with other groups at Apple, upload a PDF.
