Esper Foundation OS will come first with Lenovo ThinkCentre M70a

Lenovo is preparing to take a new step in the industry it dominates. The company has been working on its own operating system, called Esper Foundation OS, for some time.

The operating system, defined as a new enterprise-focused device portfolio offered with the mobile device management (MDM) platform, will be published based on Android. Esper Foundation OS is based on Android 11 and will have customizable branding, peripheral compatibility, quarterly security patches, and three years of support.

Lenovo marketing and strategy director Johanny Payero said the following about this change:

Esper solution is an android based software and is specially formulated for device management on an android operating system running on x86 platforms. This creates a unique opportunity for Lenovo to address this market. The specific market segments we target include the retail and hospitality industry, as well as digital signage devices for these sectors. These segments contain a large number of Android-based distributions that require some level of customization.
