In a blog post about Android 13, Google will identify the applications that consume the most battery on users’ phones in a 24-hour period. A feature similar to this was already available with screen time and similar features. However, the company aims to detect high power consumers, even though they are in the background.
For example, you downloaded a photo editing application and made the necessary adjustments there before posting on Instagram. But you did not close this application. In this case, it should stop working after a while under normal conditions.
However, since optimization problems remain in the application developer’s preference or device settings, they can continue to run in the background and consume your battery until you turn it off manually. In addition, it should be noted that some applications also contain malicious software and therefore are not intentionally closed.
At this very point, Android 13 will detect those who consume the most battery in 24 hours and those who work intensively in the background – even if we think we have turned it off, those who continue to work due to Pegasus-like software – will send a notification and warn you.
The working principle of this new feature will be quite simple. You will receive one notification within 24 hours. It will continue to be displayed unless you turn off this notification or the battery consumption of the relevant application does not stop. However, you will not be notified about the same or another application until the second 24-hour period after you close it.
On devices running Android 13, this notification says, “The app has been in the background for a long time. Tap to review.” It is said to be in the form When you tap on the relevant message, your phone will open the Foreground Services (FGS) Task Manager and you will be able to make the relevant edit from there. Google says that it predicts a big increase in the battery life of the devices thanks to this feature.
