An earthquake was felt in Istanbul and surrounding provinces!

An earthquake occurred on March 20, 2024, at 09:21:01 local time, affecting Istanbul and surrounding provinces. According to preliminary assessments made by the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, General Directorate of Earthquake and Risk Reduction, Earthquake Department, the magnitude of this earthquake was recorded as 3.5 on the Ml scale.

Yalova woke up with an earthquake!

It was determined that the epicenter of the earthquake was 2.42 kilometers from Yalova in the Marmara Sea. The coordinates of the earthquake were measured as 40.67556 north latitude and 29.24111 east longitude.

It was determined that the depth of the earthquake was approximately 9.71 kilometers from the earth’s surface. This shows that the earthquake occurred at a relatively low depth from the surface and therefore it may have been felt in the surrounding provinces, especially in Istanbul. Because earthquakes of magnitude 3.5 are generally classified as mild and do not cause serious damage.
