Akbank Hackathon: DisasterTech is coming!

Akbank, which has been working for the development of Turkey for 75 years, is holding its Hackathon competition to develop restorative solutions with technology with the theme of ‘disaster technologies’ this year. Akbank Hackathon: DisasterTech, organized in cooperation with Akbank LAB and imece, sets out with the aim of creating a safer, more resilient and inclusive society by using the power of technology in the field of disaster management.

The competition, which will bring together developers, software developers, designer professionals and students planning a career in these fields, aims to support innovative solutions in disaster technologies. The application deadline to participate in the competition is October 8.

Akbank Hackathon: DisasterTech offers the opportunity to be a part of the collective effort where different minds will come together and shape the disaster technologies of the future. A wide network of supporting institutions and mentors awaits the participants at the event, where innovative ideas that will enable us to protect and save lives by using technology as a positive change catalyst to contribute to society will compete.

On the technology side, Microsoft with its competence in rescue and monitoring solutions, and Turkey Informatics Foundation (TBV) with its aim of transforming Turkey into an information society, on the field side, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with its support for the recovery in the earthquake zone, and on the investment side, Startups.watch with its expertise in accessing financial resources for projects. ; Workshop, Impact Hub Ankara, Needs Map, Neighborhood Disaster Volunteers (MAG), Basic Needs Association (TİDER), Teyit, which approaches the field of disaster management from a social impact perspective with its work and enables the identification of problems and needs of NGOs by providing insights into the difficulties encountered in the field. Experts from .org and the Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG) will support the teams in the development of project ideas.

Stating that the competition undertakes an important mission to respond to a critical need in Turkey, Akbank Retail Banking and Digital Solutions Deputy General Manager Burcu Civelek Yüce said:

While we heal our wounds after the disaster we experienced on February 6, which deeply saddened us all, we must also invest in technologies that will prevent similar suffering in the future. An Invitation to Shape the Future of Disaster Technology

Akbank Hackathon: DisasterTech will start online on October 14 and end with presentations at Sabancı Center on October 22. Developers, software developers and designers who want to participate in the competition in teams of 3-5 people; They will be able to develop creative projects focusing on the fields of Prevention, Risk and Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Intervention, Communication and Communication, Recovery and Restructuring at any stage of disaster management processes, using the technologies they are proficient in, from the basics of Web2 to the possibilities of Web3.

The teams that will be selected after the evaluation of the applications will have the opportunity to develop their own ideas and prove themselves in the world of technology. The most successful teams will be evaluated and rewarded by the experienced jury team at the final event, which will be held on October 22, with the projects that have earned the right to be presented to the jury. In the competition, the first team will receive 100,000 TL, the second team will receive 60,000 TL, and the third team will receive 40,000 TL.
