Airplane Mode is history! Here is the date

The European Union Commission took a new decision with the advent of 5G. Airplane Mode, which came into our lives with smartphones and is now used frequently not only during flights but also in our daily lives, is becoming a thing of the past.

Airplane Mode obligation is lifted! Deadline 30 June 2023

All smartphones have a feature we know as Airplane Mode. When we activate it, we can completely stop the mobile phones from signaling to the outside. Of course, by activating other connection options such as Wi-Fi and bluetooth when this mode is on, we can open the signal access, albeit limited.

However, when this mode is on, we cannot make or receive calls, send SMS-MMS messages, or connect to the internet via 3G-4G-5G. So, for what needs was this feature developed and is it included in every phone today?

The company made a date! Starlink’s aircraft service is nearing the end

The Starlink service, which started to be tested on airplanes in April, has come to an end. The company has given a date for the highly anticipated aircraft service.

People who have traveled by plane will remember the flight attendants’ announcements that their phones should be turned off during the journey. Thanks to this mode, we can prevent our smartphones from receiving and transmitting signals without turning them off. This is very important for flight safety.

However, with the development of technology, Airplane Mode, which we are used to using in daily life, even if we are not on an airplane, is a thing of the past. Because the EU (European Union) Commission has taken a decision that airlines can use 5G technology in addition to slower mobile data on airplanes.

In this way, passengers will no longer have to turn off their phones or put them in Airplane Mode during the flight. Of course, details about possible usage scenarios and how the application will be have not been shared yet.

But this decision means that we can now use all the features of smartphones during flight. In other words, we will be able to browse and work on social media over 5G, not just making calls or texting.

It has given member states until 30 June 2023 to make 5G frequency bands available to aircraft. Probably Starlink and similar services will be accessible after this date.
