As we reported earlier, Ethereum sidechain Ronin developed by Sky Mavis was exposed to a hack attack and cost $540 million. Ethereum and USDC had fallen into the hands of hackers. According to data provided by blockchain analysis firm Elliptic, the hack took place in early March, but it came to light last Tuesday, shocking the cryptocurrency market.
The attackers had seized the “verifier” nodes of the bridge in question and were able to withdraw all funds by stealing the cryptocurrency keys.
This hack event went down in history as the second largest cryptocurrency-related hack. The largest hacking attack in history was recorded as the Poly Network hack. The platform lost $611 million in the attack in August, but the funds were returned as a result of negotiations with the hacker.
According to analysis company Elliptic, the hacker immediately started converting the USDC tokens he obtained after the attack to Ethereum. As it is known, USDC provider company Circle can confiscate crypto money assets in such cases.
