Berlin According to a new Forsa survey, there are clear differences in the popularity of parties in East and West Germany. In the eastern German states, the AfD, with 32 percent, is now clearly the strongest force ahead of the CDU with 23 percent, according to a Forsa survey published on Wednesday. In West Germany, on the other hand, the CDU with 30 percent is ahead of the SPD with 19 percent.

The differences for the Greens and the right-wing party AfD are particularly clear: the Greens have 16 percent in the west, but only six percent in the east. The AfD, on the other hand, would only be elected by 13 percent in the west.

The differences are smaller for the other parties: the CDU would vote for 23 percent in the east, the SPD 16 percent. In contrast, seven percent of those surveyed in May named the FDP as the preferred party in the west and six percent in the east. Among the leftists, who used to be significantly stronger in the new federal states, the values are now eight percent in the east and five percent in the west.
