A Turkish Bitcoin Caused The Lightning Network To Crash!

bitcoinThe Lightning Network, which was established to improve ‘s function as a payment tool, suffered a short-term collapse.

bitcoin Lightning Network, bitcoin It is a layer 2 payment protocol on the network. The proposed layer for solving Bitcoin’s scaling problems is still in the experimental stage.

According to the news of The Block, a transaction that took place on October 10 crashed a large part of the Lightning Network.

Burak Keceli, the founder of Bitmatrix, was behind this transaction. Keceli tested the limits of the Lightning Network, which creates and executes a complex transaction on the Bitcoin blockchain.

He chose a multi-signature payment method that uses multiple encryption keys to confirm a single transaction.

Signing 999 transactions required 998 keys and generated 998 out of 999 multi-signatures. Thus, the transaction took place and cost Keceli only $4.82. Considering the complexity of the transaction, this was a fairly low fee.

Keceli’s transaction caused some problems on the Bitcoin Lightning Network.

Many users stated that they could not synchronize with the network and their nodes could not access the network.

The cause of the error was related to a limit error in the parsing library of a Bitcoin application called BTCD. Keceli’s action triggered this bug.

Later the error was fixed.
