Berlin At the beginning of the week, some new colleagues were allowed to move into their jobs in the still young Federal Ministry of Construction. Among them is an office manager for Chancellor Olaf Scholz, one for Carsten Scheider, the federal government’s envoy for Eastern Europe, and a former office manager for Heiko Maas, once federal foreign minister and a member of the Bundestag until the end of the year.
The house of SPD Minister Klara Geywitz is growing steadily – and above all through former employees of the Social Democrats. Employees in the building talk about a kind of “Willy Brandt house number two” when they report on the developments of the past few months.
The Basic Law stipulates that qualifications alone may decide who holds a public office. That’s actually how the SPD sees it, for example in the current case involving Patrick Graichen, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics led by the Greens.
