Zurich. Frankfurt. Berlin The Berlin start-up McMakler pays tribute to the slump in the real estate market. Although the company was able to collect 20 million euros in fresh capital from investors, according to company and investor circles, it had to accept a devaluation. According to several people familiar with the financing round, the company’s value halved to around 400 million euros in the most recent round.
McMakler last received investor money in early 2022. At that time, 50 million euros were flushed into the coffers at a valuation of 800 million euros. The status of the unicorn seemed within reach. This is how start-ups with a valuation of more than one billion euros are called.
McMakler joins the ranks of start-ups that have had to accept setbacks in the current environment. While the young companies could hardly save themselves from investor money in the boom years of 2020 and 2021 and achieved high company values, the situation has changed since last year.
