Berlin, Dusseldorf Chancellor Olaf Scholz even wanted to be celebrated at the World Economic Forum in Davos for the new Germany speed. But most of the managers there smiled rather wearily at the chancellor’s wooing.
In fact, Germany’s international reputation for speed and bureaucracy is no longer the very best.
These ten examples show why.
1. Bundeswehr special fund – drain clogged:
In the armaments sector, Olaf Scholz decided almost overnight in 2022 that the Bundeswehr needed 100 billion euros immediately.
So quickly that even members of the government are said to have been caught off guard. Fighter jets, tanks and radio equipment are to be bought from the “special fund” – projects that had been decided on for a long time but were not implemented due to a lack of the necessary funds.
