Berlin The debate about tank deliveries to Ukraine is moving. The Handelsblatt learned from government circles that there would be “a qualitatively new step” in arms exports to the war-torn country in the “very near future”. One is in “close coordination” with the USA and France, it said in Berlin.
Specifically, it is said to be the Marder-type infantry fighting vehicle. This would allow Germany to deliver main battle tanks to Ukraine for the first time. So far, Germany had only supplied defensive weapons to Ukraine.
Earlier, France had announced that it would deliver AMX-10 RC light tanks to Ukraine, without specifying the number or timing. President Emmanuel Macron promised his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy that, said an employee of the French Presidential Office. It is the first time that Western-made tanks are being supplied to the Ukrainian army.
