125cc and below motorcycle with B class license

The driver’s license statement made by Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu today managed to shake the agenda. From now on, motorcycle models over 50cc can be used with class B, that is, with a car license. So which bikes will be available and usable with the B class?

Controversial decision: 125 cc and below motorcycles can be used with the B class!

According to the current regulation, motorcycles up to 50cc can be used with a Class B license to drive. However, since these vehicles are officially registered as motor bikes in the license and cannot reach the lowest speed limit, they cannot go on highways and bridges.

For this reason, those who want to use motorcycles other than urban transportation and those under the age of 18 should take at least A1 class and get a license that allows citizens over the age of 18 to use 600cc and under motorcycles, known as A2, up to 125cc. Class A driver’s license is required for 600cc and above.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a statement that affected millions of citizens. Driver’s license is coming. Here are the details…

In other words, in order to drive a motorcycle over 50cc, they need to take training in driving a geared motorcycle and be successful by taking both written and driving exams. However, this situation is changing now.

Because Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said that they met with the Minister of National Education and that a new regulation will be made in the coming period with the increasing use of motorcycles. Accordingly, motorcycles up to 125cc can be used with a B-class car license.

It is stated that citizens with a class B license will only need to take 1-2 additional driving lessons in order to use motorcycles up to 125cc. So they will also not need to get a motorcycle license and take the exam again.

But this situation brought some controversy with it. The reason why the relevant application was limited to 50cc until now was that these motorcycles were scooter-like gearless and could not go at high speeds, and therefore to places with heavy traffic flow such as highways and bridges.

But there are many motorcycles in the 125cc class, from the CBR125 to the MT-125, that can reach speeds of 130+ km/h and accelerate quite fast. Moreover, these motorcycles are both geared and many of them are too heavy to be used without proper training.

Therefore, it is quite dangerous for people to take the highway with 1-2 lessons. Because although the gear and clutch system is the same as the logic in the car, hand and foot coordination, that is, muscle memory, is a situation that develops over time. However, an adjustment may be made taking this situation into account.

In the statement made by Soylu, it was said:

“There are engines under 125 cc. The use of 2-wheelers has increased in Turkey. Engines under 125 cc, the number of daily used engines in the city has increased. We talked to our Minister of National Education. From now on, engines under 125 cc will be able to be driven with a class B license. Studies on this subject have reached a certain point, friends pressed the button. They will only be able to take 1-2 lessons. They will be able to provide this with an additional lesson, there will be no need to obtain a separate motor license.”
