Berlin The former General Inspector of the German Armed Forces, Klaus Naumann, sees a Russian encroachment on NATO territory as a red line from which the military alliance would be forced to act: “Should Putin bombard there or attack convoys, NATO will not be able to do without an answer if she wants to remain credible,” said the former army general and chairman of the NATO military committee in an interview with the Handelsblatt.

Of course, in the case of an attack on NATO territory, you have to take a close look at each individual case. “But we’re not allowed to tell Putin either, we only intervene if you do this and that.” And: “You have to stop staring spellbound at Putin.”
