Berlin In the event of an alarm, Brigadier General Alexander Krone would have to have his armed forces, the “spearhead of NATO”, ready to move within a week at the most. Germany is currently making a decisive contribution to securing the eastern flank by leading the defense alliance’s fastest reaction force. The core of the international contingent is the German Panzergrenadierbrigade 37 – Krones troops.
In the Handelsblatt interview, the commander explains why it is important to keep practicing working with NATO partners. Krone leads soldiers from nine nations. It’s also about mundane questions like who can tow whom. In an emergency, but also about the risk of hitting your own people with shots.
In an interview, Krone also talks about the challenges encountered during the exercises, how quickly the soldiers could actually be in the area of operations and why his troops are in a much better position than other Bundeswehr units.
