new York Global hedge funds underperformed last year at their lowest since 2018. Measured against the HFRI 500 Fund Weighted Composite Index, the funds lost 4.25 percent in value, according to data released on Monday by the analyst firm Hedge Fund Research (HFR). The barometer traces the development of the largest global hedge funds.

Hedge fund managers made heavy losses, especially in stock and cryptocurrency transactions. Hedge fund managers collect capital from professional investors such as insurance companies and pension funds and use it to bet on market trends, stock market divergences, mergers and macroeconomic trends.
