Women on executive boards: These are Germany’s climbers

The climbers

Never before have more women been recruited at board level in Germany’s most important companies than in the past twelve months.

Dusseldorf For years, the proportion of women in management positions in this country rose only slowly. At the beginning of the pandemic, the proportion of women in the Dax even shrank recently. But now a trend reversal seems to be emerging in Germany’s top corporate floors. This is shown by the figures from the current annual report of the Allbright Foundation, which were submitted to the Handelsblatt in advance.

According to this, 28 percent of all new recruits from September 2020 to September 2021 were women – the largest increase in women on executive boards to date that the 160 largest German listed companies have ever seen. Never before have Germany’s most important companies recruited more women at board level than in the past twelve months.

“We are currently seeing pretty good dynamics,” said Wiebke Ankersen, Germany’s head of the Allbright Foundation, classifying the results. She sees the reason for the positive trend, in addition to tightening the law, also in an increased public awareness of “equal opportunities and diversity in leadership”.
