Beijing, Munich BYD is pulling away from the competition in the world’s largest electric car market. Every fourth electrified car sold in China – i.e. with battery or hybrid drive – now comes from the group based in the tech metropolis Shenzhen. As the only one of the 20 top-selling car manufacturers active in China, the volume manufacturer increased sales in the first five months, as figures from the statistics portal BSCB show.
While some competitors suffered slumps of more than 40 percent, BYD almost doubled its deliveries. If the company manages to maintain its high growth rates even to some extent, it could become the largest vehicle manufacturer in China in just a few months – and thus replace the long-time leader Volkswagen.
