BleepingComputer confirmed the information shared by Tass. A VPN based in Russia connection was used and error was received while downloading various windows tools. These tools include Windows 10 Update Assistant, Windows 10 Media Creation Tool, and Windows 11 Setup Assistant.
Tass said he thinks Windows 10 and Windows 11 gadgets are shut down in Russia. Regarding Microsoft’s latest decision, the agency wrote:
Windows 10 Update Assistant, Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and Windows 11 Setup Assistant Russian users trying to download are shown the message “404 – File or Directory not found”. When trying to download Windows 10 and Windows 11 ISOs, users are shown an error message saying “There was a problem with your request”.
Although there is no official statement from Microsoft, it is necessary to use a VPN connecting outside of Russia to download Windows 10 and Windows 11 related tools.
Still, this isn’t the company’s first move. Microsoft, Russia-Ukraine suspended its sales in the country in March due to the war. It also stopped the GitHub accounts of developers connecting from Russia.
