Wind power expansion in Germany is hardly progressing

Berlin The expansion of wind power in Germany is faltering, as preliminary figures from the onshore wind energy agency (FA Wind), which are available exclusively to the Handelsblatt, show. In the first six months of this year, only 235 systems were installed in Germany.

It looks even worse when it comes to permits: Here the figures are 15 percent below the previous year’s value, actually at 281 wind turbines with an output of 1427 megawatts (MW). If these systems were to produce electricity around the clock under full load, they could theoretically supply more than 800,000 households a year.

“If we do not clear the remaining blockages in a timely manner, not only is there a risk of failing to achieve our climate protection goals, but also the attempt to free ourselves from the shackles of fossil and nuclear energy dependence,” warns expert Jürgen Quentin from FA Wind.
