Will Poland leave the EU?

Morawiecki threatened a possible Polish blockade of the entire EU climate protection package.

Poznan, Bytow, Warsaw Loud blowers, drilling and sawing can be heard through the 420 meter long workshop of the window manufacturer Drutex. Two women in yellow overalls are heaving panes into a prefabricated frame and hammering them down. A large, blue oven in which insulating glass is hardened warms the hall. It smells like plastic.

Here in Bytow, Pomerania, Leszek Gierszewski built one of the largest family businesses in Poland. The former lecturer at a military academy began making chain link fences and fox cages in 1985, still during communist times. Today Drutex is one of the largest window and door manufacturers in Europe with a turnover of more than one billion zlotys (equivalent to 220 million euros).

Gierszweski exports almost 80 percent of its windows abroad. “Poland is in the EU,” says the man in the distinctive checked blue jacket. “Still,” he adds.
