Why there are fewer and fewer entrepreneurs in the Bundestag

There are still a number of freelancers, from lawyers to tax advisors and doctors. However, classic company bosses are in short supply in the new Bundestag. In the new legislative period, there are only 51 entrepreneurs among the 735 MPs.

This means that entrepreneurs are clearly underrepresented in Parliament compared to the general population. In the Bundestag elected in 2017, which only had 709 members, things looked different. At that time, a study commissioned by the foundation counted 76 entrepreneurs. However, the figure is based on a different survey method and is therefore only partially comparable.
