Berlin, Dusseldorf It is one of the most important goals of the traffic light coalition: the rapid expansion of renewable energies. In the coalition agreement, the parties undertake to “drastically accelerate the expansion and to remove all hurdles and obstacles”.
The goals are correspondingly high: in 2030 – in eight years time – the share of renewables in gross electricity generation should be 80 percent. It is currently around 50 percent. The previous government had targeted 65 percent for 2030.
In order to achieve this goal, the expansion would have to exceed the current rate many times over. What’s the problem? The Handelsblatt investigated this question and found, among other things, a lack of cooperation between authorities, supply chain problems and too little space for expansion.
