Why the changeover in Poland, Italy, France is faster

Düsseldorf, Vienna, Paris, Rome Germany is fighting for a rapid heating transition: According to government plans, every newly installed heating system should run on 65 percent renewable energy from 2024. Pure oil or gas heating is then no longer possible, instead Germany relies on the heat pump.

It was even faster in other parts of Europe recently. Figures from the European heat pump association EHPA show: In Italy and France, significantly more of these devices were sold in 2022 than in Germany. And in Poland, too, technological change has recently progressed more rapidly. 236,000 heat pumps were sold in Germany last year. In France there were around 463,000, in Italy even 502,000.
