Berlin The Germany ticket will cost at least half a billion euros more than previously planned. The reason for this is the common goal of the federal and state governments to also offer students a corresponding ticket.

The federal and state governments want to introduce the so-called “Deutschlandticket” for 49 euros a month on May 1st. So far, they have each pledged 1.5 billion euros per year to compensate for the expected loss of revenue from the transport companies.

They also have a regulation to replace existing job tickets with the Deutschlandticket, which applies nationwide in local and regional transport. However, there is no agreement for the semester tickets valid at universities for the almost three million students. So far, the federal and state governments have only decided “to find a nationwide regulation on a solidarity contribution as quickly as possible”.
