Why President Erdogan’s power is faltering ahead of the elections

Istanbul As a nation suffers, the President’s primary concern is re-election. When Recep Tayyip Erdogan appeared before the members of the Turkish parliament on a session day in March, he shouted: “The voters will teach the opposition a lesson in May.” One of the greatest catastrophes in Turkish history was just a few weeks ago.

On February 6, two earthquakes in southeastern Turkey killed at least 50,400 people. The dead are still being recovered to this day. But after just a few days, Erdogan switched from disaster mode to campaign mode. “My nation will do what is necessary on May 14,” Erdogan urged the parliament and the people on that day.
