Why it pays off even without receipts

Dusseldorf German taxpayers pay an average of 1,051 euros a year too much to the state. There are many reasons for this: Some believe that a tax return is too much work, others underestimate the amount of the repayment or even think that they are not up to the task of preparing a correct tax return. Only about half of all taxpayers prepare a tax return in the first place.

However, our tax expert Laura de la Motte says: A tax return is worthwhile even if you have not kept any receipts. Mainly because the repayment this year could be higher than usual. This is ensured, among other things, by the home office flat rate and the possibility of rededicating older furniture that is now used in the home office. Those affected and helpers can also state the flood costs.

In today’s episode of “Handelsblatt Today” we explain how it all works and what other tips you should consider when filing your tax return.
