Interbank Card Center Inc. The May 2024 press release published by (BKM) presented comprehensive data on card usage and payment systems in Turkey. As of May 2024, the total number of cards in Turkey increased by 13 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 409.5 million.

123.1 million of these cards are credit cards, 191.6 million are debit cards and 94.8 million are prepaid cards. An increase of 21 percent in prepaid cards, 15 percent in credit cards and 8 percent in debit cards was observed.

The total payment amount increased by 103 percent compared to the previous year and reached 1,273.0 billion TL. The majority of these payments, amounting to 1,072.9 billion TL, were made with credit cards, while 176.7 billion TL were made with debit cards and 23.4 billion TL with prepaid cards. The growth rate in payments made with credit cards was 111 percent, in payments made with debit cards it was 64 percent, and in payments made with prepaid cards it was 129 percent.

Card payments made over the internet increased by 108 percent to 374.3 billion TL, and the share of these payments in the total reached 29 percent. Four out of every five in-store card payments were made contactless. The number of contactless payments increased by 33 percent to 1,028.2 million, and the amount increased by 137 percent to 377.6 billion TL.
