Paris After working in the Czech Republic and Poland, Detlef Höltken moved to Paris in January 2019. Not because he dreamed of living in the French capital, but because an interesting job lured him here. And he is pleasantly surprised by France. “I appreciate the lifestyle and the diversity,” says the 57-year-old, who, as a project manager at Atos, a provider for digital transformation, takes care of data centers and cloud infrastructure.

Höltken is one of around 83,000 Germans in France, almost half of whom live in and around Paris. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the country was sixth among the most popular emigration destinations for Germans in 2021.
