The SPD’s candidate for chancellor receives a present at an election campaign in Bavaria. The politician wants to burden top earners more heavily.

Berlin One week before the election, SPD chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz becomes specific: top earners have to adjust to the current tax level for the wealthy under his government. “The top tax rate, which then only takes effect later, could rise by three points to 45 percent,” said Scholz of “Bild am Sonntag”.
The Social Democrat emphasized that he wanted to relieve 95 percent of taxpayers in return. Singles who earned less than 100,000 euros gross per year and married people with less than 200,000 euros gross would pay less. This can only be financed by moderately raising taxes for those who earn considerably more.
The 63-year-old SPD politician immediately identified himself as a fellow sufferer of the affected voters and ordered the common will to dig deeper into their pockets: “People who earn as much as I do or a lot more can do something make a greater contribution to the financing of our community. ”
Scholz also set two conditions for a future coalition agreement: an increase in the minimum wage and a pension guarantee. “I promise the citizens: With me as Chancellor, the minimum wage will be raised to twelve euros next year,” said Scholz. “And I guarantee: The pension level will remain stable and the retirement age will not rise any further.”

In the polls, the SPD is currently unchanged at 26 percent. According to the Sunday trend, which the polling institute Insa collects weekly for “Bild am Sonntag”, the Union can gain one point and comes to 21 percent. The gain of the CDU / CSU is at the expense of the FDP, which loses one point this week and reaches twelve percent. The Greens (15 percent), the AfD (eleven percent) and the Left (six percent) keep their values from the previous week.
With his determinations, Scholz also set possible topics for the last triall on Sunday evening, the exchange of blows with Armin Laschet (CDU) and Annalena Baerbock (Greens), which Pro Sieben and Sat.1 broadcast.

Then an uncomfortable start to the week awaits the Federal Minister of Finance and the SPD candidate for Chancellor: This Monday there is a special meeting of the Bundestag Finance Committee to search the Ministry of Finance in connection with the anti-money laundering unit FIU.
The CDU demands a personal appearance, Scholz wants to take part by video in the hybrid committee meeting, which takes place at the request of the FDP, the Greens and the Left.
