Berlin If you have a high income, you have to pay tax on the savings from the gas price brake. The same limits as for the solidarity surcharge should apply to determining who has to pay taxes and who doesn’t.

This emerges from a formulation aid from the Federal Ministry of Finance for the coalition factions, which is available to the Handelsblatt. SPD, Greens and FDP want to include the regulation in the annual tax law.

There should be an exemption limit for the taxation of the state subsidy from the gas price brake. The same values should also apply here as for the solidarity surcharge. This is now only paid by high-income earners.

For private individuals who have to pay the “solidarity surcharge, the taxable income increases by the relief,” says the wording aid. The regulation should “ensure social balance”. High earners also benefit from the gas price brake, but unlike those on low and middle incomes, they have to pay tax on it.
