The Special Consumption Tax collected from electric vehicles in Turkey is determined as 10% if the vehicle has a power of less than 160 kW. Vehicles with 160 kW and above are subject to 40% tax. Tesla engineers took a step to change this tax rate for Model Y in Turkey.
Tesla managed to keep the engine power at the exact limit by producing a model that complies with the tax bracket in Turkey. Model Y in Turkey, with its 160 kW engine power, falls within the 10% Special Consumption Tax rate instead of 40%. In this way, the sales price also dropped significantly. This move has been conveyed to Tesla management by the Tesla Turkey team for a long time and is being implemented with the approval of Elon Musk.
Currently, the rear-wheel drive Model Y has an engine power of 220 kW. Tesla engineers reduced this engine power to 159 kW with software, reducing Model Y prices in Turkey. In addition, a special pricing was made for Turkey and thus the price of Model Y in Turkey was approximately 1 million 800 thousand TL.
