The US stock market also went up in January. A good sign for the rest of the year?

Dusseldorf Although the upward trend on the global stock market has weakened, this January was the second best start to the year in 35 years, as the analysts at the British bank Barclays have calculated.

Many equity strategists are also expecting a recovery this year, but only in the second half of the year. Before that, they expect more turbulence and possibly even new lows. The prominent fund manager Bert Flossbach warned in the Handelsblatt interview: “I would not assume that the prices will continue to move up at the same pace as in the past few weeks, but rather expect an up and down without a clear trend.”

The experts’ assessments are contradicted by a stock market wisdom: “As it is in January, so is the year.” So if the start of the year is successful, the stock market will also develop well in the next eleven months. But is that true? Analyst Sebastian Dörr from HQ Trust did the math.
