Where buying in the surrounding area is affordable

The capital of North Rhine-Westphalia is no longer affordable for many real estate buyers.

Dusseldorf Tobias Brüggemann found his way to the city gates many years ago. In 2013, the consultant for private real estate at the Düsseldorf brokerage house Aengenvelt moved out of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital – to Grevenbroich in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, almost 30 kilometers away. The prospect of more space and a better quality of life drew the industry insider to the Düsseldorf area.

Like Brüggemann, many real estate buyers have switched to the area around the Rhine metropolis in view of the high price level in Düsseldorf in recent years. This development has long since had an impact on the price level: purchase prices around Düsseldorf have risen massively. This trend continued in the first half of this year, as shown by data from the major broker Poll Immobilien (see chart).
