When ex-IMF chief economist Blanchard sees an end to high inflation

Frankfurt The well-known economist Olivier Blanchard sees good chances that inflation in Europe and the USA will fall again significantly in the medium term. “I hope that in 2024 we will talk about other topics than inflation and recession,” Blanchard told Handelsblatt.

The expert’s words carry particular weight: he was one of the economists who pointed out inflationary risks early on. The former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned as early as March 2021 that, given the massive economic stimulus program that had just been decided in the USA, there was a risk of “awakening the inflation monster”. Since then, prices in the US and Europe have risen sharply.
