Washington Christmas Eve was particularly cold in the US. The thermometer showed minus nine degrees, according to the “Washington Post” this was the coldest temperature ever measured on December 24th. While families gathered in front of Christmas trees across the United States, three buses in Washington rolled to the United States Naval Observatory, the official home of US Vice President Kamala Harris.
More than 100 migrants, including small children, were on the buses coming from Texas, some wearing T-shirts. Because local organizations had been warned, the bus passengers were received by an aid organization.
It was not immediately clear if Texas authorities were involved. But the stunt was similar to actions that Republican-governed states on the American southern border had carried out more publicly in the past year.
According to the office of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, his state has organized bus transportation to Washington, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia for more than 15,000 people since April 2022.
