Berlin On Wednesday, the federal cabinet passed a draft law and a draft ordinance to reform the immigration of skilled workers. This should make the German labor market more attractive for foreign workers.

The reform will make Germany “more attractive to the bright minds of the world,” said Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD). The government is laying “the foundation for a modern immigration country that not only accepts qualified immigration, but also wants it,” explained Labor Minister Hubertus Heil.

What exactly does the new law say? The most important questions and answers:

How many additional immigrants does the government hope to gain from the amendment?

The federal government assumes that with the planned regulations, an additional 75,000 immigrants from countries outside the EU will come to Germany every year. The accompanying ordinance also doubles the quota for the so-called Western Balkans regulation, so that up to 50,000 workers can come to Germany in this way each year.
