What we now know about Long-Covid – and what we don’t know yet

Berlin Most infections with the corona virus take a so-called mild course in the currently predominant virus variant Omicron. The symptoms can be severe, but hospital treatment is not necessary. As a rule, the symptoms improve within a week – but for some of those affected, the disease is not over.

According to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), 145 million people worldwide continue to suffer from more or less severe restrictions, the so-called long and post-Covid, after the end of the acute phase of Covid-19.

One speaks of long-Covid if symptoms of an illness persist four weeks after the acute infection has subsided. The disease is called post-Covid if the symptoms have not improved three months after the infection and severely affect everyday life.

If the patient still has symptoms after three months, further diagnostics should be carried out. Carmen disc arch, immunologist
