The shares of the electric car manufacturer Tesla are celebrating a spectacular comeback this year. After losses of up to 78 percent in 2022, things have already risen by more than 40 percent this year – even if the price was initially negative on Monday.

Some observers attribute the sharp rise in prices to short sellers having to end their bets on falling prices. By 2022, they had made $16 billion from such bets, according to financial data provider S3 Partners. Since it is not only about profits that have already been realized, but also about book profits, they are now trying to save the remaining profits, so the argument goes.
