Frankfurt Axel Gedaschko is not expecting anything good. “The situation is more than dramatic, and social peace in Germany is in massive danger,” warned the President of the Central Association of the Housing Industry GdW a few days ago about rising costs due to energy prices for tenants and housing companies. Averaged across all types of energy, by May 2022 the price increases would have already reached an increase of 37 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

The head of the association is not the only one who fears a cost shock when the next utility bill is billed – especially since energy prices are rising higher and higher. Gas alone has multiplied in price compared to a year ago as a result of the Ukraine war.
