What good are the German ancient tanks?

Berlin The Bundeswehr dug deep into the archive to show their followers on Twitter videos of the Cheetah tank. With dramatic music playing in the background, the anti-aircraft tank is seen driving through snowy landscapes and mud in grainy resolution. The radar rotates on the roof, while inside a soldier presses a red button to shoot down a plane – a blurred red dot on the display in front of him.

The sequence is reminiscent of movies from the Cold War. In fact, the “cheetah” was retired from the Bundeswehr in 2010. But now the historic tank is to be used again in Ukraine. Around 50 discarded “cheetahs” from the 1970s, which are currently in the inventory of the armaments company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, are to be made fit again and left to Kyiv. Not the only museum piece that should now be dusted off again. But what good are “cheetah”, “marten” and “leopard”?
