“We would sell to Nestlé again”

Dusseldorf When the food company Nestlé took over the majority of the Hamburg spice start-up Ankerkraut in April 2022, the shitstorm on social media was huge. Of the approximately 500 influencers who promoted Ankerkraut, more than half canceled the cooperation.

The founding couple Lemcke were taken by surprise by the violent public reactions: “We knew that Nestlé doesn’t have the best reputation, but we totally underestimated the shitstorm.” In Germany there is great resentment towards entrepreneurship: “The entrepreneur is always the bad guy. That can already be seen in the ‘crime scene’.”
