Clear the stage for Patrick Fabian (35)!
Bochum’s new manager has already fired one coach (Thomas Reis) and hired a new one (Thomas Letsch) during his three-month tenure. Now his first complete transfer phase starts. And that’s really important for VfL (17th).
These are Bochum’s transfer plans!
► Wishlist: We are looking for a big, strong “six”, who can also be substituted in in the final phase, as well as a fast central defender. Problem: Exactly this profile (preferably left-footed) is both rare and in demand. Competitor Schalke, for example, is also looking for a fast central defender. Bochum is interested in ex-VfL professional Maxim Leitsch (24 / now Mainz), but his return is unlikely. There has already been contact, but a possible change depends entirely on how Mainz plans with its new summer signing.
► Budget: Around EUR 1.5 million of the total budget (EUR 31.5 million) is still available for new players. If necessary, the Management Board would increase this to a mid-single-digit million amount. Among other things, thanks to the extra money from the World Cup bonuses for Takuma Asano (28) and Armel Bella-Kotchap (20/now Southampton). As well as the salary savings for ex-coach Thomas Reis (49) and his assistant Markus Gellhaus (52 / both Schalke).
► Sales: VfL only wants to give up Tarsis Bonga (25) at the moment. Further sales candidates should arise in the preparation. Coach Thomas Letsch to BILD: “December will bring momentum.” Fabian put a stop to a possible departure of substitute keeper Michael Esser (35) to Nuremberg: “He’s too important. We have other plans for him.”
If Fabian is just as lucky with his winter transfers as with the choice of coach, Bochum’s rescue is actually still possible…
