“Everyone wants Sasa to stay”

Tiago Tomás (20) has been with VfB since January on loan from Sporting Lisbon. BILD spoke to the noble technician about the start of the season, life in Stuttgart and the way to his shirt number 10.

BILD: After the game in Bremen, the coach said it wasn’t your best game. Would you agree?

Tiago Tomas: “Absolutely. I know I did some things wrong and I’ll try to do better in the next game. I work hard for that.”

BILD: Two points from the first two games. A good start to the season?

Tomas: “With a bit of luck we could have won both games, the performance was good over long stretches. But there are also things that we still need to improve as a team. If we continue like this, we will soon get our first win.”

BILD: What are you doing differently from last season, when VfB only prevented relegation at the last second?

Tomas: “We work even harder, even in the training camp. Personally, I work a lot with Nate Weiss (technical coach/ed.) to improve my game. He helps us a lot, we haven’t had this kind of individual training before. I also talk a lot with the physios about my fitness. At this level, little things can make all the difference.”

BILD: You have already been deployed at VfB as a striker and on the wings. Where is your favorite place to play?

Tomas: “It depends on the game and the opponent. I like to play when I have a player like Sasa next to me tying down opposing defenders.”

Tiago Tomas (20/2nd from right) and Sasa Kalajdzic (257l.) harmonize perfectly. The question is how much longer?

BILD: Not a day goes by without a new rumor about Sasa. How happy would you be if he stayed?

Tomas: “The rumors are not a topic that we talk about every day within the team. Sasa is with us and everyone wants him to stay. I think he’s happy at VfB.”

BILD: That also seems to be Atakan Karazor. How do you experience him after his return from prison?

Tomas: “Some people judge a person without knowing what really happened. I wish everything will turn out well.”

Pure frustration! After the last-minute shock at 2-2 in Bremen, Tiago Tomas (20/photo) was very angry.

BILD: You have been with VfB since February. How do you like it in Stuttgart now?

Tomas: “I almost feel at home, of course not quite like in Lisbon. My family and friends are very supportive and come to visit me regularly.”

BILD: What about the language?

Tomas: “I have German lessons every week, I understand a lot. It’s still difficult just to speak.”
