US Secretary of Defense announces new military aid of 2.5 billion dollars

Lithuania wants to supply anti-aircraft guns and helicopters to Ukraine

Lithuania will continue to provide military aid to Ukraine to counter Russia. The Baltic EU and NATO country will deliver dozens of L70 anti-aircraft guns, ammunition and two Mi-8 helicopters to Kyiv, Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas wrote on Twitter. According to him, the new aid package has a total value of around 125 million euros. He did not initially provide any further information on the time of delivery.

The handover of the anti-aircraft guns to Kyiv had previously been announced by President Gitanas Nauseda during his visit to Ukraine in early January. According to a report by the BNS agency, Lithuania acquired the weapons from Sweden in 2000.

The Mi-8 helicopters are used by both Lithuania and Ukraine. The Baltic state currently has three examples of the flying machines developed in the Soviet Union, which are to be replaced by UH-60M Black Hawk military helicopters.

Internationally, Lithuania is among the most determined supporters of Ukraine. According to its own statements, the government in Vilnius has given Ukraine aid worth 660 million euros since the Russian attack at the end of February – more than a third of it in the form of military aid.
