Cryptocurrency US Congressman Ro Khanna, answering questions from journalist Laura Shin, bitcoin and made evaluations about cryptocurrencies.
“We Should Suggest Solutions Instead of Criticizing Bitcoin”
Regarding Bitcoin’s criticism for using high amounts of energy, Khanna said:
“I hear a lot of criticism about Bitcoin’s use of high energy and its use of energy from coal mines. As far as I know, BTC is an asset of approximately $1 trillion. Anything worth $1 trillion will waste energy, that’s obvious. The real issue is how to make BTC greener.
For example, we can allow mining facilities to operate during hours when electricity usage is not high. We can give mining companies tax incentives to do this. We can promote the use of renewable energy. We can promote wind power, which is currently underused in Texas.
Bitcoin is here to stay and it’s not going anywhere. Therefore, rather than criticizing energy use, we should produce innovative solutions on this issue.”
Saying that he supports blockchain technology, Khanna stated that this technology has many benefits and also creates job opportunities.
However, the Congressman said he would support the US government to issue a CBDC of his own to take advantage of the benefits that cryptocurrencies bring.
“I Struggle To Set Up A Cryptocurrency Desk In Washington”
In addition, Khanna called for clearer rules for the regulation of digital assets:
“Even if cryptocurrencies are considered securities, they cannot be regulated in the same way as other assets.
I am currently working to set up a cryptocurrency desk in Washington to discuss US crypto policy with feedback from the cryptocurrency community.”
